The Explosive Growth of Guangdong's C&I Energy Storage Market: Sustained Project Profitability

With the widening gap between peak and valley electricity prices across various provinces in China, coupled with the continuous decline in raw material costs for lithium batteries, the expansion of the Two-part Tariff, and the maturation of Virtual Power Plants leading to increased profits, the economics of C&I energy storage has become increasingly apparent. According to relevant data, the installed capacity of C&I energy storage on the user side is expected to reach 10 GWh in 2024.

The main profit models for C&I energy storage include arbitraging from the TOU tariff, peak-valley energy shifting, demand management, demand side response, electricity spot market trading, and grid ancillary services. Common business models include the owner investment, pure leasing , contract energy management, and the contract energy management + financial leasing model.

From January to April 2024, there were 360 registered C&I energy storage projects in Guangdong Province, with a total capacity of 359.63MW/726.40MWh. The total investment amounted to 1.657 billion yuan, with a total of 177 companies participating in the investment and operation of these 360 projects. Among them, 167 companies are locally registered in Guangdong. (Source: Energy and Power Speak)

Since its establishment in 2019 in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China, Vilion has been focusing on the C&I energy storage sector. Leveraging the core technical team with over 16 years of experience in the energy storage industry, it has launched a series of products such as the EnerCube containerized battery energy storage system, EnerArk integrated outdoor battery energy storage cabinet, EnerGeo integrated outdoor battery energy storage cabinet, ViStarter edge energy management system (EMS) and ViViewer intelligent O&M cloud platform, and the others. After multiple updates and technological optimizations, we have formed a comprehensive set of 'soft + hard' integrated solutions covering multiple power ratings, capacities, and application scenarios. Vilion has also successfully delivered energy storage projects in nearly 40 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, France, and Sweden.

As a key area for business expansion, Vilion has deployed multiple energy storage projects within Guangdong Province. Among them, two Contract Energy Management projects with arbitraging from the TOU tariff were established in two industrial parks in Dongguan city. Leveraging Guangdong Province's significant peak-valley price difference(consistently >0.8 yuan/kWh in the long term), the profits have been steadily increasing.
